Mooncake

Mooncakes, also known as reunion cakes, were first used to worship the moon. Now, it is one of the must-have foods during Mid-Autumn Festival. Mooncakes are eaten and gifted to relatives and friends during the festival. Over the years, the looks and tastes of mooncakes have changed, but the most traditional mooncakes are still popular today.

Admiring the full moon

The moon is the fullest and brightest during Mid-Autumn Festival. Admiring the full moon is an important custom of this festival. After dinner, family and friends will sit together and enjoy mooncakes and tea while looking at the beautiful moon.

Lantern Riddles

Lantern riddles were created based on traditional riddles. It often uses a word or poem to form a riddle. Not only are they exciting to guess, they are also a way to learn new things. This has made it a very popular custom of Mid-Autumn Festival!

Lantern

Lanterns are a tradition of Mid-Autumn Festival and they symbolise joy. Red lanterns symbolise reunion for family and friends. In the past, lanterns were mainly made of paper. Now, lanterns come in different shapes and sizes. Lanterns seen today may even include different coloured lights and sounds.

The Fire Dragon

During Mid-Autumn Festival, the fire dragon can be seen in some celebrations. It is filled with longevity incense and lifted high in the sky by many people. The fire dragon, accompanied by drums, will pass by many streets and alleys. The body of the fire dragon is 70 meters long and its body is made up of 32 different sections. It is indeed a spectacular sight! 

Festive Lanterns

Festive lanterns can be seen in Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. They symbolise a happy reunion and creates a strong festive feeling.

​In the evening of Mid-Autumn Festival, people can enjoy sweet osmanthus tea with honey, while admiring the full moon. Family and friends come together to celebrate the sweetness of reunion.

The best time to have pomelos is during Mid-Autumn Festival. The round shape of the pomelo resembles reunion, while its taste helps to balance out the

sweetness of mooncakes.
